Notes: Eigl; from book # 2153 Borrer "A Journey from Naples to Jerusalem by way of Athens, Egypt, and the Peninsula of Sinai, including a trip to the valley of Fayoum." An excellent early source on the Oasis of Fayoum. One of the few books which contains early information on the oasis, which lies on Lake Moeris, about 200 km south west of Cairo. The great French traveller and explorer Linant de Bellefonds was among the first to report about that lake and the valley of Fayoum, having visited it in 1821, and Borrer's book contains the English translation of Linant's "Memoire sur le Lac Moeris". Moreover, Borrer himself visited Fayoum and gives a detailed, near 100-page account of the oasis and valley. Borrer had travelled there via Malta, Athens, Alexandria and Cairo. Afterwards he went to Suez and Sinai, Jerusalem and the Dead Sea. (Blackmer 415)
