Notes: Copper engraved early view of Liberia coast, but missing segment of view and title from 'of Col' (rejoined minus the vertical missing segment); The view is from the first volume of "The African Repository, and Colonial Journal" Vol. I No. VII September 1825, pamplet/book # 2161; The African Repository was first issued in 1825 and continued until 1892, when its name was changed to Liberia. It was edited by Ralph Randolph Gurley. The American Colonialization Society promoted the return of free African-Americans to Liberia and worked to suppress the slave trade. The society transported 6000 people between 1821 and 1867.
