Notes: [PENDING ARRIVAL POTTER] Compiled for the Field Intelligence Department, this simple map is one of a series - an "Imperial Map of South Africa". A very detailed map, c.4 miles to one inch, showing the area north of Britstown - a small town in the Karoo region of Northern Cape Province. Shows divisional boundaries, roads, railways, telegraph lines, farm boundaries and fences, homesteads, hills, pans (often dry), cultivated land, and trees in the Britstown area. Relief is shown by hachures. A subtitle is given - "This map is not to be considered as absolutely accurate", nevertheless, a fascinating record of this early period of settlement. Backed with linen and folded into light card covers.
