Without back text. This is the (failed) siege of Houmt Souk on Djerba in 1559/60. ; Swaen auction 9.2018 noted similar map by DUCHETTI, C. / ORLANDINI, J. Title: Fortezza di Gerbi. Published: Rome, 1586 / 1602, 27.5 x 40.0 cm.; Rare and early plan the fortress in present-day-Jarbah Hawmat-as on the Tunisian island of Djerba, the largest African island in the Mediterranean. The fortress is still one of the main tourist attractions on the island. First published by Claudio Duchetti (born Claude Duchet, 1554-1597) who was an engraver and publisher in Rome, and was the nephew and successor of Lafreri. Re-issued by Joannes Orlandi who acquired many Lafreri plates, which he re-issued at the beginning of the 17th century. Rare, separately published.
