Notes: Ruderman and Labail source; Large wall map of Africa, drawn by Adrien Hubert Brue engineer geographer, and dedicated to the Comte d'Artois, future king Charles X. In cardboard from the map of Milbert's Voyage, Brue was one of the best cartographers of the 19th century. He drew up many maps remarkable for the purity of the engraving and accuracy of information. For some of them, he drew directly on copper (in Greek cypron). He gave the cards drawn by this process the name of encyprotype cards. This is Brue's full wall size map of Africa in 4 separate loose sheets with margins, to be digitally stitched in high-resolution scans. [see map 3801 single-sheet version]
