Notes: [Dasa Pahor and Alex Johnson source] In the late 19th century Tunis under the French influence developed as a city with western urban plan, large boulevards and modern buildings. This map showcases the city in 1904, as it looked like during this urban evolution, which lasted until 1914, the beginning of the WWI. Marked are most important buildings, hundreds of street names and important locations such as a Greek and Jewish cemetery. The map is very rare and we could only find one institutional example (Bibliotheque nationale de France). In the later years the map was sold without the lists of streets in the left and right margin and with the new title mounted over the old one, no doubt to conceal the outdated date of the publication.
